]]>‘Pecco’ Bagnaia won his eleventh race of the year in the season finale, although he would miss out on the title as rival Jorge Martín did enough in Barcelona to secure the crown. The Spaniard was third in the race, behind Marc Márquez in second.
Bagnaia broke away from the opening corner, and could only be followed by M. Márquez. He would go on to best him, taking the win from pole position but losing out on the title.
Martín held firm with an intelligent ride in third, bringing his bike home on the podium to become MotoGP World Champion.
Álex Márquez, Aleix Espargaró, Brad Binder, Enea Bastianini, Franco Morbidelli, Marco Bezzecchi and Pedro Acosta completed the Top 10.
After a positive Saturday with Joan Mir’s 13th place in the sprint race, Sunday did not end in the same way for the Repsol Honda Team.
Mir made a great start and was up into 11th, leading the chasing group during the initial laps. However, he crashed on Lap 6 and was unable to rejoin the race.
Luca Marini‘s race saw steady improvement, as he lost positions at the start and then rose up the order. Renowned for having better second halves to races this season, he worked his way up from 19th to 16th, but was unable to overtake Maverick Viñales to place amongst the points.

«I was pushing incredibly hard during the race after making a good start, I was feeling good and doing everything I could to close to the group in the top ten. Finally, I pushed too much, and I fell which is a big shame because we can see that there were good points on the table. Everyone is working hard to come back, and today I wanted to show that I am 100% committed to being fast and to fighting for everything possible. We now start to look to 2025 already, first with the test on Tuesday before some more outings before the end of the year. Our work does not stop, we keep on doing everything we can.»
«The key point of today is to compare our performance from May to today, and I think when we do that, we can see that we have made a good step forward. Barcelona is always a tough circuit for us, so this limited our performance a bit today. This year has been all about making progress, both with the bike and with myself – there is still more to do but we are going in the correct direction. I am looking forward to this winter to keep working on the project that we have started and attacking again in 2025, to help Honda return to the top.»

]]>‘Pecco’ Bagnaia took his seventh sprint race victory of the season at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, winning from pole position after pulling away from his rivals. He benefitted from an early crash involving Marc Márquez and Pedro Acosta that stretched the field, and laid down a consistent fast pace through to the chequered flag.
The fight for second place was decided on the last lap in favour of Enea Bastianini, leaving Jorge Martín to complete the podium positions. The results for the two title contenders mean that the 2024 World Champion will be crowned in Sunday’s race.
A 13th place for Joan Mir completed a sprint race in which he made steady progress at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. He got off to a good start to climb up to 11th, a position in which he rode for much of the race. However, in the final stretch the group that he had been leading were able to find some extra pace, and Johann Zarco and Maverick Viñales overtook him.
Luca Marini also made a good start, but was unable to make up more than one position. He ended up completing the last sprint of the year by rounding off the Top 15.
On Sunday at 2:00 p.m. local time, the twentieth and final race of the 2024 MotoGP season will take place.

«We have had a positive day today and that’s what we need to focus on more than anything, we made a step forward and in Qualifying we were really competitive. I made some small mistakes on the lap which cost us Q2, but honestly it was a big boost to be that competitive after some tough races in Asia. In the race I was able to make a great start, moving into the top ten on the first lap. Unfortunately, in the race we had the same vibrations that have been there throughout the year so we dropped back. But honestly, I am happy because this weekend I have been able to see where we have improved the bike over the course of the year. One more day, one more chance to end well!»
«I was expecting a little more from the race today, especially at the start – I wasn’t able to make use of the extra grip of the tyre to attack at the start. After the first two laps my pace was ok, we need to find more rear traction to turn more. There is work to do, but we can see that there is space to do it and we will keep on trying until the final race of tomorrow. Coming back to Barcelona allows us to check the difference that we have made throughout the year which is very positive.»

]]>‘Pecco’ Bagnaia took a sixth pole position of the year in Barcelona, continuing his dominance from Friday. for who has shown that he is one step ahead of the rest, as he already showed during the Friday session. The Italian had to wait until the last moment to fend off second placed Aleix Espargaró, whilst Marc Márquez completed the front row.
After a tight FP2 and with up to twenty riders in less than a second, and another close Q1, in Q2 Bagnaia led the way early, with Marc Márquez and Martín behind him. After the pit stop and the subsequent tyre change, Bagnaia again lowered his time to secure pole position, ahead of the two home riders. The second row of the grid is made up of Jorge Martín, Franco Morbidelli and Pedro Acosta.
The rest of the riders who took part in Q2 were Maverick Viñales, Enea Bastianini, Marco Bezzecchi, Fabio Quartararo, Álex Márquez and Johann Zarco.
Good qualifying session for the Repsol Honda team at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. On the one hand. Joan Mir was just a breath away from qualifying for Q2, his best qualifying of the season (P13). Luca Marini, on the other hand, was a tenth slower than his teammate and will start from P16 on the grid. Earlier, in FP2, both worked on their pace for the sprint race and finished in P19 and P20 respectively.
Mir took just two laps to lower his best time from Friday. The Spaniard, who had crashed at the end of Practice while trying to lower his 1:40.125 time, was able to put in a great lap after a pit stop in Q1, and was just 28 thousandths away from the Q2 cut-off. The Repsol Honda rider’s best time was 1:39:432, faster than that which he had set at the Catalan Grand Prix a few months ago.
Marini also took advantage of his first outing in Q1 to get into the fight for the Top 2. The Italian had been faster than his teammate initially, but after a tyre change was unable to make the same improvements, with his best lap -and quickest time of the weekend- a 1:39.619. He will be 16th on the grid.
The sprint race will take place at 3pm (CEST).

]]>The first day of practice at the MotoGP Solidarity Grand Prix took place on Friday. Back in Europe after several rounds in Asia, the World Championship started the last round of the season at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
After an uncertain start to the day in terms of conditions, the MotoGP class Free Practice 1 was much wetter and colder than a few months ago at the Catalan Grand Prix. However, the best times were also much slower, something that improved substantially throughout the afternoon Practice.
Dominant from the first moment of Practice, Marco Bezzecchi quickly established himself as the man to beat. Behind him, Alex Márquez, Pedro Acosta and the two title contenders wanted to ensure their presence in Q2. In the final part of the session, Pecco Bagnaia snatched the best overall time, with Bezzecchi and A. Espargaró also in the Top 3.
The rest of the riders who go directly into Q2 are: Zarco, Martín, Viñales, A. Márquez, M. Márquez, Acosta and Bastianini.
The Repsol Honda team riders, Luca Marini and Joan Mir, finished in 16h and 18th on Friday. Although neither claimed a place in Q2, both managed to improve the times they set at the Catalan GP, when the track conditions were more favourable.
Marini made progress throughout the first day of the season finale. The Italian, with a best time of 1:41.359, was able to round off the Top 10 in the morning session. In Practice, he steadily improved his time to take a 1:39.994, for 16th.
Mir also improved in the afternoon, having set a 1:41:717 in Free Practice. He quickly lowered his time by several tenths at the start of Practice to fight for the Top 10. When pushing late on, he suffered a small crash when on course to clock a new best time, and finally had to settle for a 1:40.125.
FP2 and the last Q1 of the season take place on Saturday before the Sprint Race.

«I crashed with my second tyre in the ‘qualifying’ of today which certainly limited how competitive we were. Tonight, we need to check what happened and compare the second tyre, I was feeling strong with the first tyre and make a pretty good lap. The performance of the bike improved over the course of the day but we still have a bit of work to do with the rear grip. There’s margin to improve and I think we can make quite an interesting Qualifying tomorrow. It will be important to see how the temperature and grip changes from today to tomorrow.»
«Overall we have been able to have a productive day and understand the situation of our weekend, good to start building the base. With the soft tyre the grip is unbelievable, especially in the first lap, where I have felt the track conditions a bit strange. I think it will keep improving as the weekend goes on. The performance of Zarco and also Taka [Nakagami] are very encouraging for us, it shows that there is speed and potential in our package and we just need to keep working to unlock it all.»

]]>The penultimate race of the 2024 MotoGP season saw a tremendous spectacle on the opening laps. After an initial start that produced a red flag for a crash involving Jack Miller, Brad Binder and Fabio Quartararo on the second corner, the race was resumed with a distance one lap less than initially planned. Bagnaia and Martín exchanged overtaking moves early on, until the Italian managed to get a slight advantage that allowed him to impose his pace and achieve his tenth win of the year, with Jorge Martín in second position.
Third on the podium was Enea Bastianini, who gained ground in the standings on Marc Márquez -a crasher in the first half of the race who finally crossed the finish line in twelfth position. Fourth was Álex Márquez after a late pass on Pedro Acosta. Fabio Quartararo, Maverick Viñales, Álex Rins, Marco Bezzecchi and Augusto Fernández completed the Top 10.
The Malaysian Grand Prix was a difficult weekend for the Repsol Honda Team riders. In the main race of the weekend, Joan Mir made a good start from twentieth position on the grid and moved up as high as sixteenth, but on the sixth lap he suffered a crash and was unable to continue.
Luca Marini also managed to gain two positions on the first lap, rising to seventeenth. As the laps went by, the Italian managed to increase his pace, regaining ground on the riders ahead of him. He finished the race in fifteenth position, earning another point in the overall standings.
The MotoGP World Championship will end in two weeks’ time at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, a round that will replace the Valencian GP after last week’s terrible floods in the Spanish region.

Joan Mir:
“I made a really good start with the first go of the race and I was running with the top ten! Unfortunately, I made some contact with Miller, so I was quite worried, it was a relief to see the images of him in pit lane and then I went to his box after and he was typical Jack. This is the most important. During the race I wasn’t able to ride in a good way and I fell, unharmed, but our race was over. It hasn’t happened again, so we need to check and be sure. Like the last few races, I was able to overtake many of the riders but starting in the back complicates things. One more chance to do some more.”
Luca Marini:
“The race was a little bit hot. From the physical side I am happy with my performance. The grip was quite low with the heat so we struggled for some traction during the race. With the quick start procedure everything also got hotter which complicated some things for the second start. During the race, our tyre management was quite good and I was able to make up ground later, especially under braking. We started far back so it’s difficult to catch up. I am not happy with P15, the position doesn’t show all the work that we have done nor the race that I did today. Points are good, but we want more because everyone is working very hard inside Honda.”

]]>MotoGP World Championship leader Jorge Martín took another step towards winning his first title in the premier class, as he triumphed in the sprint race at the Malaysian GP. On Sunday he will have the first opportunity to clinch the title, if he can score 9 points more than Pecco Bagnaia. The current world champion, who had achieved pole position just a few hours before, was overtaken on the first corner of the 10 lap race and, in his attempt to maintain the pace, made a mistake at Turn 9 of the third lap, losing the front end and crashing.
Marc Márquez finished second, just 1 second behind the winner and with a second advantage over Enea Bastianini, who was third. Behind them, Alex Marquez, Fabio Quartararo, Franco Morbidelli, Brad Binder, Jack Miller and Pedro Acosta completed the points..
Luca Marini and Joan Mir had a difficult race at the Sepang International Circuit. The Repsol Honda Team riders improved their pace compared to Friday, but not enough to make the cut in Q1. Starting from the seventh row, in 19th and 20th position, Marini managed to progress to 15th position, followed by Mir who finished 16th, one second behind his teammate.
Tomorrow at 3pm local time, the nineteenth round of the season, which could decide the MotoGP title, will take place.

Joan Mir – 16th
“There were some steps forward today, I know that we struggled and lost a lot in Qualifying but in the Sprint we were able to get something back. We changed a few things on the bike to ride in a more natural way, which also helped us. I made a good launch but then got stuck in some traffic, then in Turn 4 someone’s wing flew at me so I had to stand up. The opening laps were quite tricky but then we settled into our pace and we were quite competitive from the middle of the race.”
Luca Marini – 15th
“We had a decent race, I got a good start and was able to fight in the early laps. Our pace was still not there with the other riders and I was risking too much to stay in the 1’59s, so I wasn’t able to stay with the group ahead of me. Overall I feel that we have made a step compared to yesterday, which is a positive and I want to say thank you to my team for doing a lot during the night. There are still some improvements for us to make, especially under straight braking so I hope we can make some steps with that. Let’s see what will happen tomorrow, there’s still more to come.”

]]>The duel for the MotoGP title continues this weekend in Malaysia, and qualifying saw ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia and Jorge Martín in top form. The start of the session was hectic, with Jorge Martín breaking the circuit record. However, on his last attempt, Bagnaia managed to improve the marker even further to take pole position for both races at Sepang, in which World Championship leader Jorge Martín will start second.
Behind them was Álex Márquez, who will complete the front row. On the second row will be Franco Morbidelli, Marc Márquez and Enea Bastianini, who had a crash on his second hot lap attempt. Jack Miller on Row 3 is joined by Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins. The fourth row will be occupied by Brad Binder, Johann Zarco and Maverick Viñales.
The Repsol Honda Team riders had another difficult Saturday at the Sepang International Circuit. In today’s free practice, Joan Mir finished in nineteenth position, followed by Luca Marini, twentieth.
Once in Q1, both managed to improve their times and lap in 1 minute and 58 seconds, but it was not enough to climb up the timesheets: on this occasion Marini was nineteenth, followed by Joan Mir, twentieth.
The pair will take part in the sprint race for the Malaysian Grand Prix at 2pm local time..

]]>The reigning MotoGP World Champion led the first two practice sessions at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, and ended the day with a time of 1:57.679. That was just 2 tenths off the circuit record that he himself had set last season. In second place was Jorge Martín, the leader of the World Championship, who was top of the timesheets until a crash in the final minutes prevented him from continuing to improve.
Third was the winner of the last Grand Prix, Enea Bastianini. Behind them were Maverick Viñales, Álex Márquez, Fabio Quartararo, Franco Morbidelli, Álex Rins, Jack Miller and Marc Márquez, who will go directly into Q2.
The Repsol Honda Team riders did not have an easy first day. In Free Practice 1, with the track initially wet due to the rain that had fallen in the previous hours, Joan Mir and Luca Marini finished in nineteenth and twentieth place, respectively.
In Practice, the afternoon session that gives access to Q2, Marini was eighteenth, 1.6 seconds off the best time. Although Mir managed to improve his time by two seconds, he finished in twentieth place, 0.160s behind his teammate.
Saturday sees the second day of practice for the Malaysian MotoGP Grand Prix, with the qualifying and the sprint race.

Joan Mir:
“Today, and I think this weekend overall, has been very useful for us to compare our situation to the test. Times are of course different because the conditions during the test are better, but still we can assess how our feeling and performance has changed. An average day at the office for us, we still have the limitations of the last few rounds. We have to check a few things we’ve done during the season; it’s going to be an important weekend for this.”
Luca Marini:
“Today we were very busy, trying a new frame and preparing everything for the weekend. The frame was not a clear benefit so we will go to the spec we have been using in the previous races. We also need to work to understand the rear trye better because here it’s different to other races. Corner entry is an area we need to work on more because normally we are stronger there. Some work to do tonight because I am not satisfied, we keep going to do our best like always.”

]]>On a rainy Sunday, the MotoGP race saw many crashes and the two title contenders out in front. ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia won the race, ahead of Jorge Martín. Marc Márquez’s crash when he was fighting for victory gave Pedro Acosta a spot on the podium.
Bagnaia took advantage of a mistake by Martín on Lap 3 to break away with Márquez, then held off the Spaniard’s attacks. Eventually, Márquez went to ground, leaving a gap to second place that was more comfortable.
Martín came home second, with Acosta snatching third place by passing Jack Miller late on.
Di Giannantonio, Binder, Viñales, Zarco, Álex Espargaró and Álex Márquez completed the Top 10.
Seven crashes on the first eight laps took the likes of Fabio Quartararo, Enea Bastianini and Franco Morbidelli out of the fight at the front.
After a promising Saturday, Sunday started well for the two Repsol Honda riders. Both secured their starting positions and managed to gain places as the laps went by, especially due to the falls caused by the delicate track conditions.
Luca Marini was in the fight for the Top 10, and scored points after a strong finish to the race. He crossed the line 12th at Buriram.
Joan Mir had placed 13th in the sprint race, but in the Thai GP itself he suffered excessively with tyre wear and the consequences of a collision with Marc Márquez. He ended up completing the points, placing 15th.
The MotoGP World Championship now heads to Sepang for the the Malaysian Grand Prix, on November 1st-3rd.

«The first half of our race was really good, I felt strong, and I was able to do more or less as I wanted. In the second half the feeling changed, and we lost a lot of ground, as a team we need to look at what happened to understand and improve for next time because if we continued the race like we started it, I really think a top ten was possible today. Overall, our weekend has had a lot of positives, and I think we deserved more than just a single point. I am looking forward to arriving in Malaysia and having the possibility to show our potential again.»
«I enjoyed Warm Up and the race a lot. Conditions were super complicated and there were a lot of points where you had to risk crashing. Even in these tricky conditions I was quite fast, but with how slippery it was on track it was quite difficult to overtake so I was behind several riders for a bit too long. It was really fun to battle with Mir and Zarco for most of the race. A satisfactory race to save the weekend after a really challenging Saturday. Now two more chances to make some more progress before the next season starts.»

]]>Enea Bastianini dominated the sprint race at the Thai Grand Prix from start to finish, taking the lead early and managing to pull away for the victory.
Jorge Martín took a risk on the first corner and ended up falling to P5. As the laps went by, the current leader of the overall standings caught up first with Marc Márquez and then with ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia, earning second place.
Bagnaia tried to put pressure on his rival on the final laps, but was unable to beat him, finishing third and losing two more points as the gap increases to 22 in the standings.
The points were completed by Marc Márquez, Álex Márquez, Franco Morbidelli, Marco Bezzecchi, F Fabio Di Giannantonio and Brad Binder.
There was a thirteenth place for Joan Mir in one of his best sprint races of the season. The Spaniard managed to get a great start and moved up six positions, riding alongside Jack Miller and Johann Zarco in a battle for eleventh position. The pair eventually got the better of him, but Mir was nevertheless able to make progress in the contest.
Luca Marini suffered from starting further back on the grid. The Repsol Honda Team rider was 21st. Despite struggling on the initial laps, he was able to finish 19th.
On Sunday at 2:00 pm local time, the Thai Grand Prix will be held in Buriram.

«I really enjoyed the Sprint today, I was able to recover a lot on the brakes and had a lot of really good battles with riders like Quartararo, Miller and Aleix. The first laps especially were really good and I felt really strong. Of course, everything was complicated by Qualifying, which has been the case a lot this year. In practice this morning I felt really good, then with the new tyre in Q1 we struggled and started very far. To come from 19th to fight for the top ten is something we have to focus on and be happy about».
«We did not have our best day of the year today, our level from Friday to Saturday remained the same and when we put in a new tyre we aren’t able to gain that much performance. In the past races we were more competitive and today Mir and Zarco both had more pace, so we need to keep trying some different things. I think the experiment with the bike setup this weekend has shown it’s not the direction to follow. Tomorrow with the ‘standard’ setting I hope to be more competitive and fight with my teammate.»
